Mark Willand founded Mark Willand Media in 2010. Among companies he currently works with are the Boston Bruins Alumni, Pro Hockey Alumni/DAJHockey, and the 501c3 Hockey Cares for Kids, Inc.
In conjunction with the Bruins Alumni, he created and managed the "Hockey in the Streets" inner city hockey program with the state of MA. Department of Recreation and Conservation. Clinics were held in a variety of inner city locations including, Brockton, Worcester, Springfield, Lowell, Lawrence and New Bedford.
Mark Willand also created and manages the Bruins Alumni digital marketing venues, including Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
Previously, Mark was President and COO of the Connecticut Whale Hockey Club (now the Hartford Wolfpack), the American Hockey League affiliate of the New York Rangers. In this role, he was responsible for running day-to-day activities of a 30-person sports organization while overseeing the Whale's marketing, branding, communications, community relations, human resources, game operations, merchandising and events. He worked closely with ticket sales and corporate sales.
Willand created "Whale TV" which produced a full slate of TV games and features on CPTV Sports, Comcast Xfinity and the internet. He also produced the CT Whale's official "Take it Outside" video.
His career began as Assistant Director of Public Relations with the National Hockey League's Hartford Whalers (now the Carolina Hurricanes). During Willand's six year career in Hartford, the Whalers were recognized for having the NHL's premier media guide and top press box in three different seasons.
In 1993, he was hired by the NHL's Pittsburgh Penguins to spearhead the team's pay per view cable network, PenVision. In addition to marketing the new entity, Willand also produced a home shopping program and television commercials for PenVision.
When the Penguins sold their TV and marketing rights to Fox Sports in 1995, Willand joined the network and made a major impact on the Pittsburgh sports media scene. While with Prime Sports and later Fox Sports, Willand created and produced the "Players' Show", a sports magazine program that served as the pre-game show for the Penguins and Pittsburgh Pirates.
